Gavin made his entrance into the world with the kind of flair that would set the tone for the rest of his life. Born to Elizabeth, one of the monkeys rescued from a bankrupt roadside zoo, Gavin was a total surprise. Staff had been assured all the males in the group had been vasectomized, but three baby monkeys soon proved otherwise. Gavin, the cheekiest of the bunch, quickly stole the spotlight. He moved into a

peaceful habitat with his mom and his Zaney, where the sanctuary’s newest arrival could grow up surrounded by love, freedom, and plenty of things to climb on (or tear down).

From day one, Gavin has lived large. Raised by his mother, he’s free from the stress behaviors often seen in monkeys who grow up in captivity, and it shows. He is bold, endlessly energetic, and completely unbothered by the idea of slowing down. One minute he’s swinging full-speed from rope to rope, and the next he’s turning a hammock into a slingshot or launching himself into the middle of some monkey action, whether or not he was invited. Habitat props, enrichment toys, carefully arranged structures… none of it stands a chance. Gavin is a one-monkey demolition crew, and he wears that title with pride.

He’s also a bit of a drama connoisseur. Gavin loves stirring the pot with his neighbors, shaking branches or loudly chiming in on other monkeys’ business, just to keep things interesting. His playful chaos keeps everyone, staff and monkeys alike, on their toes.

Gavin may be a lot, but he’s never boring. With his wild spirit and fearless energy, he brings a spark to the sanctuary that’s entirely his own- a reminder of what it looks like when a monkey gets to grow up free, confident, and entirely himself.
