Harriett Houdini may be small in size, but she’s a giant when it comes to brains and mischief. True to her name, Harriett earned a legendary reputation with not one, not two, but three successful escapes in her pre-sanctuary days. Locks, latches, and doors were mere suggestions to her- she could always find the weak spot and be halfway to freedom before anyone realized she was gone.

Since arriving at Jungle Friends, though, Harriett has hung up her cape as a full-time escape artist. Thanks to a habitat tailored to her curious, playful spirit (and some very secure locks) she’s found other ways to keep herself entertained. These days, she’s known for her love of unscrewing, unhooking, and “disappearing” the clips on her feeders, which now have to be secured with padlocks because Harriett has figured out how to open even the twisty-lock carabiners. Nothing gets past her.

She shares her space, and many of her antics, with her best buddy Skotty, and the two are often seen wrestling, chasing, or teaming up to investigate (read: dismantle) whatever enrichment item is new that day. But beneath all the boldness is a softer side. When she’s not stirring up harmless chaos, Harriett can often be found curled up, peacefully sucking her thumb. It’s an endearing habit she’s had for years, and a gentle reminder that every clever trickster needs her quiet moments too.

Smart, spunky, and endlessly curious, Harriett keeps life interesting for everyone around her. She may not be breaking out anymore, but she’s still breaking expectations, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
