Monkers arrived at Jungle Friends as a four-year-old rescue from a bankrupt roadside zoo, where she had been living in a crowded group of 25 capuchins. Even at that young age, her gentle nature was unmistakable. During the rescue and transport, a tiny infant named Mochi fell desperately ill after being separated from

his mother. When he reached the sanctuary, staff stepped in to save his life, and Monkers stepped in to save his heart! She immediately adopted little Mochi, carrying him on her back, grooming him, and comforting him as if he were her own. It was the beginning of a lifelong pattern: Monkers became Jungle Friends’ most devoted surrogate mom.

Over the years, she has lovingly raised several babies who needed a safe, nurturing presence. One of them was Baby Charlie, whom she guided through his early years until he grew into the confident, playful capuchin he is today. Though Charlie is now grown and no longer living with his surrogate mother, Monkers’s influence is still woven into the fabric of his story.

Today, Monkers remains a sweet, steady spirit with quirks that make her a joy to know. She loves dragging her blankets outside and arranging pine straw into little nests and piles all around her habitat, like her own cozy form of interior decorating. Whether she’s caring for an infant or crafting the perfect pine-straw masterpiece, Monkers radiates warmth, tenderness, and quiet joy.
