Tete arrived at Jungle Friends after a long journey from a shut down zoo in Puerto Rico, where the animals had been living in deteriorating conditions. Activists helped bring attention to the situation, leading to her rescue and safe transport to Florida, where a new chapter in her life could finally begin.

When she first arrived, Tete was shy and cautious, unsure of the people and the new world around her. But with time, patience, and gentle care, she has blossomed into a much more confident little lady. Though still a bit wary, she’s now curious and engaged, often zooming through her runways to keep track of who’s nearby and what everyone is doing.

Tete is also a passionate foodie with a particular weakness for peanuts and corn. She’ll grab as many peanuts as her hands can possibly hold, pause to evaluate her haul, then try to figure out if she can manage just one more. And when corn is on the menu, she’ll launch into an enthusiastic sprint across her habitat, determined to beat her partner to both food bowls so she can snag the best pieces.

Watching Tete’s transformation from timid newcomer to bold, comedic forager is one of the true joys of caring for her. She’s spirited, clever, and full of surprises, and she continues to grow more confident every day.
