Loved Enough to Let Her Go

Mimi was deeply loved by Amanda and Eric, who gave her all the affection and care they could. Previously diagnosed with marmoset wasting disease, she arrived with a demanding medication regimen. Since arriving at Jungle Friends, she has gained weight—a hopeful sign of improvement. She continues treatment for suspected inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
As Mimi reached sexual maturity, her natural instincts emerged. Despite her family’s love and devoted care, life in a human household became stressful for Mimi and difficult for her family. They realized that love alone could not provide everything she needed.
Their commitment continued at Jungle Friends. Eric helped renovate and prepare her new home, and the family donated 5,000 which will cover her first year of care. Amanda and Eric remain devoted to Mimi and visit as often as they can.
Mimi is settling into her beautiful, naturalistic habitat with more freedom and opportunities to explore. She can choose sunshine and fresh air or her cozy bedroom, surrounded by marmosets who speak her language.
Her family’s love will always be part of her story. Here, she has their continued love and the chance to form friendships with her own kind—to simply be a monkey.
Sometimes the greatest act of love is letting go.
