Charlie Brown’s journey to Jungle Friends began in an unexpected place — a pawn shop, where he was for sale for just 0. Nothing else is known about his past. Thankfully, he was purchased simply to remove him from that abusive situation and give him a chance at something better. Instead of a life of uncertainty, Charlie found true belonging at the sanctuary, where his needs are finally understood and respected.

At first, Charlie preferred the comfort of his indoor space, watching movies and playing with toys while cautiously observing the world around him. Everything changed the day he noticed another monkey nearby. Curious and hopeful, he began reaching out to Blondie, testing the waters of friendship with soft vocalizations and tentative gestures.

Today, Charlie greets his caregivers with enthusiastic shouts and playful games of give-and-take, always eager for interaction. One favorite trick? Holding his food bowl hostage until he’s bribed with extra peanuts. (It works every time.) He instigates lively play sessions with his companion Blondie, one of our “wild girls,” racing, wrestling, and joyfully calling out in delight. At night, he happily snuggles close to her, content and secure. The lonely days are behind him, replaced with friendship, fun, and plenty of peanuts.

With a personality as bold as the Florida sky, Chris is a true original. From his perch high above the sanctuary grounds, he watches the world with curious eyes and a confident air.

Now in his golden years, Chris may be a bit slower than some of his younger neighbors, but he certainly isn’t slowing down. A retired resident of the University of Georgia research program, he now enjoys the freedom and dignity of sanctuary life. He prefers fresh air and sunshine above all else, spending nearly all his time outdoors basking in the Florida heat and striking poses in the sun. He moves with the self-assured swagger of someone who knows exactly who he is.

Chris is endlessly curious about the monkeys around him. He can often be seen chattering at his neighbors, head tilted just so, as if deep in conversation. Whether he’s showing off his prized ball or simply soaking up the scene, he’s always in the mix.

Today, Chris shares his life with Clotho, another former laboratory monkey, and together they enjoy companionship, comfort, and the peaceful rhythm of their well-earned retirement.
