Fat Larry’s journey to Jungle Friends began as part of a dramatic rescue. He was one of 25 capuchins saved from a bankrupt roadside zoo, where he had lived in a crowded enclosure with his fellow monkeys. At first, the rescue seemed straightforward—Fat Larry and the others, including a nursing mother and infant, were all part of a single family group. But things quickly took an unexpected turn.

Despite being told that all the males, including Fat Larry, had been vasectomized, three surprise births revealed otherwise. With baby monkeys on the way, Fat Larry and the other males were temporarily moved into a bachelor group until they could undergo proper vasectomies.

When he first arrived at the sanctuary, Fat Larry was true to his name, carrying a bit of extra weight from his previous life. But since settling into his new environment, with plenty of space and enrichment, he’s slimmed down and embraced a healthier lifestyle, becoming Fast Larry. Now affectionately known as "The Lean Machine," Larry enjoys foraging for treats, lounging with his best friend Iris, and exploring his habitat at his own pace. Though he’s no longer the "Fat" Larry of old, his laid-back charm remains fully intact.
