At 42 years young when she arrived at Jungle Friends, Susie is proof that it’s never too late for a fresh start.

Susie was purchased as a “pet” in 1986 and spent decades living closely with her devoted guardians. In their younger years she traveled with them and shared daily life as part of the family. As time passed and her guardian’s health declined, Susie’s world gradually grew smaller. She spent her later years mainly in a large birdcage in her own bedroom, with a mirror and television playing bird videos for company.

After his wife passed, Susie’s guardian honored their shared hope of giving her a better life and reached out to Jungle Friends. Before her move, he began showing her videos of other monkeys, and Susie’s bright eyes and excited reactions made it clear she was ready for something more.

Since arriving, Susie has embraced sanctuary life with enthusiasm. She enjoys exploring her outdoor habitat, foraging through pine straw, and watching her neighbors. She now lives beside KC, another female in her 40s, and we hope that in time the two will become companions so Susie can spend her golden years with a monkey friend.
