Kari refers to Charlotte and her sister Samantha as the co-founders of Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary. This title stems from their significant influence on Kari, leading her to realize important lessons and establish the sanctuary. Charlotte, born in Las Vegas, NV, was bought by Kari to keep Samantha company. In 1997, the sanctuary was officially founded in Las Vegas. By 1999, Kari relocated the sanctuary to Gainesville, FL, along with the animals, seeking a warmer and more humid climate suitable for them.

Unfortunately, Charlotte lost her beloved sister Samantha to triple-negative breast cancer on December 2, 2017, shortly before her 25th birthday. Sam died in Kari's arms, surrounded by her friends and family, knowing how much she was loved and cherished. Those who knew Samantha will remember her as a mischief-maker, always plotting to prank new volunteers. Samantha had a great sense of humor and a contagious love for life–she lived it to the fullest, right up until her very last day!

Charlotte was introduced to Monk Monk the same month Sam died, as we did not want her to be alone with her grief. Monk is also a White-Faced Capuchin rescued from a hoarding situation with hundreds of dogs and cats.

Charlotte and Monk Monk have a wonderful relationship. They run around, wrestle, and chase each other every day until they snuggle up for the night.
