Dereka is a bundle of energy with a big personality packed into a tiny body. Her journey to Jungle Friends began just in time, after authorities intervened to prevent her from being sold and ensured she could finally live a life designed for a monkey. From the moment she arrived, it was clear Dereka was ready to explore, play, and make the most of her fresh start.

Now thriving in a spacious, almost-wild habitat, Dereka keeps herself busy from sunrise to sunset. One of her favorite antics is carrying “treasures” in her tail—often climbing the side of her habitat with an impressively large stick trailing behind her like a banner. When she’s excited to see someone, Dereka puts on a performance all her own, jumping up and down, puckering her lips into an exaggerated “duck face,” and striking a pose that looks a lot like monkey yoga.

Early introductions with other capuchins showed that Dereka needed a companion who could match her bold spirit. Caregivers eventually introduced her to Louie, another energetic capuchin with a similar personality. With careful planning, the two formed a strong bond and quickly became inseparable. Together, they bring nonstop energy and entertainment to their habitat. Spirited, curious, and endlessly playful, Dereka has truly found her place at Jungle Friends.
