Smalls arrived at Jungle Friends in March 2019 alongside two other marmosets, Biggie and Tupac, after being rescued from an illegal breeding operation. When authorities intervened, the breeder fled with many of the animals, but thankfully, these three were safely recovered. Their rescue marked the start of a brand-new life, one filled with freedom, safety, and the chance to simply be monkeys.

Not long after their arrival, caregivers noticed that Biggie's belly was growing, and sure enough, she was expecting. For the first time in their lives, this little family was given the chance to raise a baby instead of having one taken from them. When baby Lani was born, it was Smalls who stepped up in the most remarkable way. He quickly became her primary caregiver, carrying her more than either of her parents and showing a gentle, protective side that melted hearts. His patience and dedication gave Lani the strong start she deserved.

Today, Smalls is all grown up, and his personality continues to shine. Curious, observant, and sweet-natured, he's always watching what's happening around him, and he's never above flirting with the ladies in nearby habitats. Despite his petite size, Smalls has a big presence and a quiet charm that wins over monkeys and humans alike.

From a rescued breeder to a proud and playful uncle, Smalls reminds us that love, safety, and a second chance can bring out the very best in every monkey.
