Burt, along with 25 other squirrel monkeys, was retired from nicotine studies and found a new home at Jungle Friends. Their arrival made history as the first troop to be retired from the FDA, an event celebrated and reported by CNN. Burt shares a special bond with his twin brother, Ernie. Burt tends to be less shy than Ernie and often takes care of his brother. When treats are offered, Burt will go fetch them and bring them back. If faced with something unfamiliar, Burt will hug Ernie tightly and provide comfort and security.

The bond between the brothers is unbreakable. They dislike being separated, even for a short time while receiving care from their caregivers. When apart, they emit locator calls, communicating back and forth until they are reunited. Together, the twins revel in the simple joys of life: back scratches, the delightful crunch of crickets and mealworms, the indulgence of superworms, and each other's company.
