When Gideon arrived at Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary, he didn't come alone. He was one of 26 squirrel monkeys rescued from a life spent in nicotine studies, making headlines as the first troop ever retired from the FDA’s research program. Their arrival was covered by CNN, a testament to the collaborative efforts of scientists, activists, and animal lovers united in a mission to give these monkeys a second chance at life.

Gideon quickly found his place in this newfound freedom, becoming an irreplaceable member of his troop. His days are often spent in the cheerful company of Oak and Pip, two fellow survivors. Together, they make for a lively trio, though they know how to keep things calm and quiet when Oak isn't feeling his best. Gideon is the kind of monkey who fits in seamlessly wherever he goes, his easygoing nature endearing him to everyone he meets.

With his gentle disposition and those impossibly large, soulful eyes, Gideon has become a beloved figure among his sanctuary friends and human caretakers alike. His eyes seem to speak volumes, a reflection of the resilience and warmth that define his character. Whether playing in the sun or lounging in the shade, Gideon’s presence is a comforting reminder of the sanctuary’s mission: to offer a life of peace and joy to those who have endured much.
