She was originally purchased as a “service monkey” for a young girl named Lauren, who had become paraplegic after a car accident. Though Carli received far more care than she gave, she was dearly loved by Lauren and her family. After Lauren’s sudden passing, her mother made it her mission to find the best possible home for Carli, and that journey brought her to Jungle Friends.
Carli arrived in style, accompanied by her devoted veterinarian, Dr. Beasley, who drove her across the country to her new home. She came with a dowry that funded the construction of a custom outdoor habitat and indoor enclosure just for her. In memory of Lauren, her family also helped fund another habitat for a monkey still waiting for sanctuary. Carli quickly made herself at home, and while she enjoys plenty of time outside, she has a soft spot for the cozy comforts of her indoor space. You’ll often find her wrapped in blankets (or tugging them around to redecorate), observing the goings-on of sanctuary life like the master strategist she is.
Though she’s clever and independent, Carli isn’t without her softer side. She lives with her companion, Andy, and together they make quite the pair: playful, affectionate, and deeply bonded. Carli is a shining example of just how complex and captivating monkeys can be when they’re given the chance to thrive!
If you hear a joyful scream echoing through the sanctuary, it’s probably Charlie Brown announcing his excitement! Spirited and wonderfully opinionated, Charlie isn’t shy about sharing his feelings—especially when his favorite caregivers arrive. He greets them with enthusiastic shouts and playful games of give-and-take. One favorite trick? Holding his food bowl hostage until he’s bribed with extra peanuts. (It works every time.)
