When Darwin first arrived at Jungle Friends, he was struggling deeply. He engaged in severe self-harming behaviors that required portions of his tail to be amputated. With time, extensive enrichment, careful observation, and appropriate medication, Darwin slowly found stability. Thankfully, he has not harmed himself in many years—a testament to patience, compassion, and the healing power of sanctuary.

Today, Darwin is a calm, contemplative capuchin who prefers peaceful moments over busy social scenes. From the beginning, his love for the outdoors was clear. He often claims the highest points of his habitat, lying stretched out along the monkey bars with his limbs draped lazily over the edges—a posture that perfectly reflects his relaxed, easygoing nature.

One of Darwin’s greatest joys is bug-hunting. He spends long stretches exploring the grass, turning over leaves, and scanning the ground with quiet focus. This thoughtful curiosity makes him fascinating to watch, even though he tends to keep a polite distance from people.

Darwin shares a gentle bond with his companion Dharma. While more reserved than she is, her presence brings out his playful side through light wrestling and relaxed chases. Together, they’ve found a balanced rhythm of independence and companionship. Secure and serene, Darwin now embodies the quiet peace that sanctuary life is meant to offer.
