Hayley arrived at Jungle Friends when she was seven years old, full of curiosity, attitude, and mischief. Before coming to the sanctuary, she lived with Ernie, another capuchin, in a thoughtfully designed home that included an indoor enclosure, an outdoor habitat, and plenty of enrichment. They had space, stimulation, and one another, but they were intelligent, determined monkeys with a talent for problem-solving.

Then came what’s now known as the great escape. In a moment that perfectly demonstrated just how clever capuchins can be, the pair managed to break free, climbing the fence and making their way into a neighbor’s yard. While everyone was safely recovered, the incident made one thing clear: even an excellent private setup couldn’t fully contain them. With their best interests at heart, the responsible decision was made to bring the monkeys to Jungle Friends, where their needs could be met on a sanctuary scale.

Hayley has shared her life with Ernie from the very beginning, and the two have been inseparable ever since. Together, they turn their habitat into a daily adventure — chasing through runways, hiding in barrels, and inventing elaborate games only they seem to understand. When the excitement settles, they groom one another or curl up together in their hammock, content and peaceful.

Though playful at heart, Hayley also has a creative side. She loves to paint, adding bright splashes of color to canvas. With her mix of sass and artistic flair, Hayley is a true original and a beloved presence at Jungle Friends.
