Katie’s life story speaks to extraordinary resilience. Before coming to Jungle Friends, she spent years in a breeding facility, repeatedly enduring the heartbreak of having her babies taken from her shortly after birth. Her situation worsened when she was injured during a conflict within her troop. Instead of receiving care, Katie was sent to auction, her future left entirely to chance.

Everything changed when a compassionate woman learned about Katie and refused to let her story end there. She placed the winning bid and ensured Katie was brought to Jungle Friends, where she could finally heal in safety and dignity.

Here, Katie has truly come into her own. She is a spunky older lady with attitude to spare, never shy about voicing her opinions or asserting her place in the world. Katie shares her life with Bonnie, another older capuchin who lost her longtime companion to cancer. As both monkeys slow down in their golden years, they’ve found comfort in one another’s calm companionship.

Even with her diagnosis, Katie continues to climb, explore, and engage with determination—the unmistakable spirit of a monkey who has decided she’s not done living. Her boldness, resilience, and sweetness make her a treasured presence at the sanctuary and a powerful reminder of how far compassion and second chances can carry a life.
