Mia is a clever capuchin with a bold personality and a talent for creative chaos. One of her favorite pastimes is shredding blankets into tiny pieces, and she’s quite proud of her ability to toss food with impressive accuracy. If you catch her eye, don’t be surprised if you become part of her next playful food-flinging experiment.

Mia’s life began with challenges. She was separated from her mother and sold as a pet when she was only four days old. For the next 21 years, she lived with a loving family in Iowa who cherished her deeply and did everything they could to give her a good life. Over time, they came to understand that, despite their love, Mia needed something they couldn’t provide—a permanent home where she could live among other monkeys and experience a more natural life.

When Mia arrived at Jungle Friends, it wasn’t immediately clear which species she most closely identified with, as she is a mix of white-faced capuchin and another species. Caregivers thoughtfully introduced her near several groups, watching closely to see where she felt most at home. It quickly became clear that Mia gravitated toward Dylan, a young white-faced capuchin. They shared the same social cues and behaviors, forming an easy, natural bond that showed Mia was very much a white-faced capuchin at heart. Their relationship has grown into a close and affectionate partnership, with Mia often taking on a confident, guiding role.

Today, Mia spends her days exploring her habitat, tearing up enrichment, tossing toys and snacks, chatting with her friends, and soaking up the Florida sunshine. Curious, energetic, and full of personality, Mia is a much-loved member of the Jungle Friends family.
