Micky (has passed) approaches life with boundless enthusiasm, especially when food is involved! Carestaff can always tell when he’s spotted something delicious, because he bursts into an unmistakable “good food!” scream that echoes across the sanctuary and alerts every neighbor within earshot. His excitement is contagious, and his round little belly proudly reflects his love of mealtime.

Before arriving at Jungle Friends, Micky lived at the University of Georgia, where he participated in cognitive studies alongside several other capuchins. When he first settled into sanctuary life, he was noticeably pale compared to the rest of the group, but with time outdoors he’s developed a healthy golden tan that matches his bright personality. He has also shown remarkable resilience: after surviving a stroke a few years ago, he underwent three days of hyperbaric treatments and amazed everyone by making a full recovery.

In his early days at the sanctuary, Micky tended to keep to himself, content to explore and observe at his own pace. All of that changed when he met Rachel, one of the sanctuary’s spirited “wild girls.” The two formed an easy, affectionate bond, and now it’s rare to spot one without the other close by. Whether they’re lounging together, foraging, or simply enjoying the sunshine, Micky and Rachel have created a companionship that has brought out a whole new side of him: happy, confident, and wonderfully connected.
